When life gives you limes... make limeade!

Background
Children Helping Children (CHC) is a charitable trust organization established in October 2012 in Belize City, Belize. This organization emerged from the desire of Salima Barrow, who at the age of seven, decided to raise funds with a limeade stand and donate the earnings to children who are battling cancer. Salima’s mother, Mrs. Kim Simplis Barrow, was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in 2011 at the age of 39. Instead of withdrawing and privately coping with her illness, she parlayed her fight for her life into an incredibly successful campaign to increase public awareness on cancer and reduce stigma and discrimination by going public. Even before her mother’s diagnosis, Salima had wanted to start a limeade stand to help children with special needs and cancer. Witnessing her mother’s courageous battle was even more motivation for her to join the fight against this indiscriminate disease that is also affecting the lives of children across Belize.
Now teenagers, Salima and her friends/founding members of Children Helping Children, Abigail Thurton and Haley Thurton, are hoping to regain momentum so that their organization can continue to assist children in need. In the words of Salima, “we believe that every child, whoever they are or wherever they live, should have equal access to care and treatment services.”

Purpose
The Children Helping Children organization's purpose is to raise money to benefit children battling cancer. Funds are raised through annual events centered around the Limeade Stand. The aim of this organization is to assist families of children with cancer to access medical care. One hundred percent of the monies raised from each event is donated to help offset the cost of medical care for Belizean children.
